Powerful Anti-Smoking Ad From Thailand

Take a moment to watch this Thai anti-smoking advert. The ad apparently resulted in a 40% increase to Thailand’s quit smoking hotline.

The ad was created by Ogilvy Thailand. It consisted of young children (seen above,) approaching adults that were smoking and asking for a light. The adults, a bit dumbfounded, rebuked the kids at length and criticized smoking. The kids then asked, “if smoking is so bad for you, why are you doing it?” They handed a card to a smokers help line and walked away. 100% of the smokers threw out their cigarette and kept the card. Wow!

This is a new ad that has started to spread around online. Most people say it has a powerful message.

They wouldn’t dare try that here in the states.

I found an similar ad campaign in India. They replaced public cigarette lighters with so-called “chanting cigarette lighters”. As soon, as anyone wanted to use one of these lighters a chant sung by Indians for their dead would come on. The understanding on people’s faces makes me believe that this will have a significant impact on smokers in India. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqH_hqzdZqs
